Q: Can I have a job? a place to live?

A: Only if you board here and are working off your board. no.

Q: Can I rent horses and go on a trail ride?

A: No. We're a boarding farm, not a public trail riding place. Read the info page.

Q: Do you teach lessons?

A: no. If you need some guidance with your own horse, I can help you.

Q: do you do pony parties for kids?

A; no. read the "stay here" page.

Q: I'm from England/Africa/etc. and my distant niece is getting married in California next year and I'd like to rent some carriage service. what's your bank account number so I can wire you payment?

A: bug off. That's an old trick. Try to steal someone else's money and learn US geography.

Q: "My horse requires a special diet. Do you provide that? Can I provide my own feed?"

A: No. we feed a custom grain mix that contains Oats, Barley, Beet Pulp, Corn, Flax Seed, CocoSoya, and Purina Charge protein/mineral supplement. If you believe that your horse needs a special diet, please board at a barn that will cater to your special needs.

Q: "Will you feed supplements?"

A: if you provide supplements in pre-measured portions or Smartpacks, we'll add it to your horse's meals. If it's not pre-measured and labeled, don't expect us to feed the way you want it fed. The Owner of the barn feeds the custom grain mix and does not supplement her horse regularly. She truly believes in her product.

Q: "What kind of hay do you feed? my horse will starve if he's not eating all night, can I feed extra?"

A: we feed 1st cutting grass/alf mix inside during the summer, fall, and early winter. In the winter, when the horses are cooped up in the sacrifice lots, they have first cutting round bales (from the same fields as the inside hay) to eat all day. Late winter, we switch to third cutting so that the horses can adjust to a richer feed before we open the pastures back up. Your horse will get as much hay as he needs to mantain a healthy weight and will also clean up.

Q: "Are horses turned out?"

A: Yes. Horses are turned out every day as much as possible. They go out at night during the summer to prevent sunburn, and during the day in the winter. Occasionally, they'll be inside, but that's when the weather hits negative double digits before the windchill. Otherwise, they go out.

Q: what time do the horses go out/come in?
A: In the morning, and in the evening. It varies by a couple of hours depending on the day and the chore person's schedule, and occasionally you have to be a little bit flexible.

Q: "Can you leave my horse in regularly because he has a special need?"

A: No. Horses go out. They are happier outside.

Q: "My horse needs to have blankets/boots put on and taken off, do you do that?"

A: No. If your horse need special care, you do that.

Q: "Where can I ride?"

A: We have an indoor riding arena, a half mile around the pasture perimeter, and access to over 25 miles of horse trails in the park. If no horses are in a particular pasture, you can ride there as long as you're not chewing up the grass. We also have a field with small jumps/obstacles that is fun to play in.

Q: "When can I visit my horse?"

A: Whenever you want to. We do not have barn hours because all the boarders care for and treat the place as if it were their own home.

Q: "What do you do about Veterinary care?"

A: For routine care, we do make every effort to coordinate schedules in order to share the costs of a farm call. If your horse has an emergency, We notify you, you call the vet. We use Blissfield Veterinary Service. If you prefer a different Vet, you arrange your own services and do not "campaign" to have other boarders use your vet.

Q: "What farrier do you use? who schedules that?"

A: You make all arrangements with your farrier of choice and you supervise your horse. If you would like your horse to be on the "barn" schedule, Sara will arrange to hold your horse for the farrier as long as you have left a check for the farrier in advance. There is no formal charge for this, however Sara certainly appreciates help with small things around the barn when you're available and they need to be done.

Q: "How much does it cost to board if I provide my own feed and clean my own stall."
A: $325. Same price if we provide the feed and clean your stall. We certainly appreciate the help with the stalls. Everything here is run on efficient systems, so providing your own feed just creates more confusion for the workers.

Q. "Do you allow lights in the winter to keep my horse's coat short for Showing?

A: We're not a show barn, we don't do lights. our horses get shaggy in the winter. you'll probably be happier at a show barn.
